Kuimba: Music

Rainforest (from the CD "Mawingu-I Remember Africa")

(Kuimba)
Music, Lark Bowerman, Kris Bowerman
The theme of this piece was inspired by Lark’s childhood memory of a visit to the Pygmies in the Ituri Rainforest. It’s an attempt to convey the feeling of the noble old growth trees towering in protection over the little dome-shaped huts of the Forest People.

We went to visit the Pygmies during a visit to Africa in 1990 and both got a chance to soak in some of the feeling of the rainforest: the riotous abundance of vines, trees and flowers; the continual calls of myriad bird varieties throughout the day; the incessant cricket chorus and the uncanny screams of the lemurs at night; and the sound of the Pygmies singing in the village for the full moon dances.
