DRUM CIRCLES
Drum Circles are fun ways of expressing one's self as well as 'communing-cating' with others through rhythm.
What happens at a Drum Circle?
Here's a sample:
(better visual samples on the way)
At drum circles we jam, expressing ourselves individually within the whole of the group.
Many people tell me they are afraid of coming to a drum circle when they have never (or barely ever) played a drum. I look at them and tell them that a drum circle is one of the BEST places to start playing! Nobody is judging and there are always drummers there that can carry the beat. If you get off or lost while playing, just stop and jump back into the rhythm when you can! It's fun!
Drum Circles are once a month at my residence on Arthur Drive in Ladner. No reservations necessary. For more detailed info on dates, time, cost, etc. please go to the calendar of events.

DRUM CLASSES
African Djembe

Intermediate Drum Class - May 2011
What is a djembe?
A djembe is an hour glass shaped drum that originates from countries such as Senegal, Guinea and Burkino Faso in West Africa. Due to its contrasting sounds of deep bass, treble 'tone' and cracking slaps, this drum has become widely popular in North America, Europe, Australia and other countries around the world.
What do we learn in the class?
In both the beginning and intermediate classes students learn proper technique as well as a slew of different rhythms from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. The goal: to make good music!
Where are classes held?
Beginning classes are held through Delta Continuing Education in the fall, winter and spring. Intermediate classes (requires an audition) are held at the Delta Community Music School through out the year.
Who's teaching us?
Kris Bowerman, B.M. He has 24 years of experience teaching music, specifically for the djembe and all the brass instruments.
Do I need to bring my own drum?
Yes, you do. You can buy one or rent one. They generally run from $150 - $250 and rent from $15 - $18. Here's a list of some places you can go to check out djembes:
